On 1st October 1999, the Mayor of the City of Hobsons Bay in Victoria, Councillor Dick Murdoch, in the presence of FOLA President, Peter McInnes, launched the Friends of Altona Library's permanent - Book Sale Room. The room has customized shelving that allows easy selection of category, price range and many books with covers displayed. The Book Sale Room operates every Friday and during special events.
President of the Friends of Altona Library, Margaret Broeks states: "It's been absolutely fantastic, I don't know why we didn't think of it before now. It makes sorting and selling of the books so much easier, and we make more money, along with joining new Friends every week.
